These are two girls who have gained widespread media attention due to controversy over what is apropriate for young girls. To the left is ten year old French model Thylane Loubry Blondeau who was at the center of a large media outcry last summer because of the provocative French Vogue spread she posed for. To the right is 15 year old Margaret Palermo or “Venus Angelic” who has attracted attention for her childlike “living doll” Lolita makeup tutorials. Both stand on extreme ends of the spectrum with one who has grown up too fast and another who wants to maintain an innocent look. I wonder what are people’s opinions on this issue. Are girl’s being pressured to grow up too fast? Is the fashion industry partly to blame? Is there anything wrong with wanting to remain childlike?

Here’s a quick and easy way to get a designer look for less. The dress to the left is from Tony Ward’s Spring Summer 2012 ready to wear collection. Pricing information is on request, and a low guess on the price is somewhere around $400. It is a beautiful knee length party dress with a fitted silver sequined base and a sheer black chiffon skirt. If that price tag is a bit out of your budget then the dress to the right is a nice alternative. This strapless sequined mini dress has a sheer flyaway piece similar to the style of the Tony Ward dress. The price of this dress is pocket change compared to the first. It is available on sale online and in stores at Jcpenney for only $30 throughout April. At that price it’s a steal. It can be dressed up with strappy silver heels as well as a sheer black scarf around the neck to give it the elegance and sophistication of a more expensive piece. Remember if you have your heart set on a designer piece, you don’t have to break the bank to dress like high fashion.

So I was catching up on recent couture collections and found Basil Soda’s Fall/ Winter 2011-2012 collection. I really loved it and wanted to share it. The collection features rich colors, a play on symmetry and detailed touches of embellishment. The gowns are made of a balance of delicate fabrics and tough materials such as silk, leather, and metallic touches. The looks are a blend of past and future as silhouettes invoking images of ancient goddesses are reworked with a futuristic flair. The looks are very fashion forward and are something I enjoyed very much. Above have posted my personal favorites from the show.
